EQ Eight

Eight surgical bands. The serious EQ.

WHAT IT DOES

EQ Eight gives you eight bands of fully-shapeable EQ. The big brother of EQ Three: same idea (boost or cut) but with eight surgical bands and a visual response curve.

HOW IT WORKS

Each band has frequency, gain and Q. Low and high bands act as shelves; the inner six are bell peaks. Cut narrow to fix problems, boost wide to shape tone.

SOURCE: Parameters & terminology modeled on Ableton Live 12's EQ Eight — Live 12 manual §22.10. DSP is a simplified Web Audio approximation — directionally accurate, not a clone.
COMMON MISTAKES
  • Boosting everything
  • Q too high on boosts
  • Forgetting to A/B match loudness
WORKED EXAMPLE
GOAL: Carve space for vocals in a busy mix
  1. Cut 350 Hz -3 dB on the music
  2. Cut 1.8 k on the music to leave room
  3. Boost 4 k on the vocal +2 dB
▸ Try preset: VOCAL CARVE
