Racks & Macros

Wrap chains. Map controls.

One knob, eight parameters. Welcome to performable sound design.

// WHAT IT DOES

A Rack is a container for devices. Macros are 16 knobs you map to ANY parameter inside the rack.

Right-click a parameter → Map to Macro → tweak one knob, control everything you mapped.

Think of it like → Like turning a whole synth's worth of knobs into one big steering wheel.
▸ WHY YOU CARE
  • Build performance presets where one knob = filter + reverb + delay all at once.
  • Save complex chains as a single device.

LOWPASS CUTOFF
Listen for the brightness. High cutoff = open and bright. Low cutoff = dark and muffled.

▸ HOW IT WORKS

Macro knob → mapped parameters' ranges → live devices receive scaled values.

▸ Signal flow — watch the dot
▸ SIGNAL FLOW
Macro KnobINPUTMappingsPROCESSDevices in RackGAINAudio OutOUT
Glowing dot = your signal travelling through Live.
▸ LISTEN FOR
  • Multiple parameters move in parallel from one knob.
▸ WALKTHROUGH (3 steps)
  1. 1. DO: Group 3 devices into an Audio Effect Rack (Cmd/Ctrl+G).
    ▸ LISTEN: Wrapper appears.
  2. 2. DO: Right-click filter cutoff → Map to Macro 1.
▸ LISTEN: Macro 1 now drives cutoff.
  3. 3. DO: Map reverb wet to Macro 1 too. Set range 0–60%.
▸ LISTEN: One knob = filter sweep + reverb rise.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
  • Forgetting to set Min/Max ranges — every macro becomes 0–127.
  • Mapping too many params to one macro = mush.
