// WHAT IT DOES
MIDI is information about notes — pitch, length, velocity, position. The Piano Roll is where you draw, edit, and tweak them.
Double-click a MIDI clip → grid appears. Pencil tool draws notes; Selection tool moves and resizes them.
Think of it like → MIDI is sheet music. The Piano Roll is the music stand where you write it.
▸ WHY YOU CARE
- • Build a melody one note at a time — no instrument needed.
- • Fix a wrong note, change velocity, transpose — without re-recording.

▸ HOW IT WORKS
MIDI clip → notes (pitch, time, velocity, length, chance) → instrument → audio.

▸ SIGNAL FLOW
Glowing dot = your signal travelling through Live.
▸ LISTEN FOR
- • Velocity scales how hard the instrument is hit (most synths get brighter/louder).
▸ WALKTHROUGH (3 steps)
- 1. DO: Double-click a MIDI clip → press B → click the grid.▸ LISTEN: Note plays through the instrument.
- 2. DO: Drag a note's right edge.▸ LISTEN: Length changes — sustain changes accordingly.
- 3. DO: Click the bottom velocity bar and drag.▸ LISTEN: Note gets quieter or louder per hit.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Drawing notes outside the loop brace — they never play.
- ✗ Forgetting to switch back to Selection tool after drawing.
