The Major Scale

// WHAT IT DOES
A major scale is a set of seven notes that produces the familiar 'happy' or 'bright' sound. C major is the easiest to see: all white keys from C to the next C.
The interval pattern (in semitones) is W W H W W W H — whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half. Apply that pattern to any starting note and you get a major scale in that key.
Every major scale has the same shape; only the starting note (the root or ) and which notes get sharps/flats change.
Think of it like → A scale is a colour palette. Major is the bright, sunny set.

- 5. DO: Transpose the same melody up a 5th to G major.▸ LISTEN: Identical mood, higher position — proves scale = relative pattern.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Using non-scale notes accidentally — sounds 'wrong' unless used as passing.
- ✗ Confusing key (scale + tonic) with mode (which scale degree is home).
- ✗ Building melody before choosing a key.
