Where home is and why it matters.
A key is a home base. Everything in the song points back to it.

// WHAT IT DOES
The key of a song is the scale + that everything resolves to. 'C major' means the song uses C major scale notes and feels resolved on a C major chord.
Tonality is the broader sense of having a home base. Tonal music has clear pull toward the tonic; atonal music intentionally avoids that pull.
Most pop and electronic music is firmly tonal. Knowing the key tells you which notes are safe and which chords function as home, departure, and tension.
