Scale Awareness
The whole project speaks one scale.
Set the key once. Every instrument, Push, and MIDI tool speaks the same language.

// WHAT IT DOES
At the top of Live's interface in Live 12, you can set a root note and scale (C Major, F# Minor, D Dorian, etc.). Once set, the Scale MIDI device automatically filters notes to that scale, Push 3's pads highlight in-key notes, and MIDI Transformations generate pitches within the scale. You set it once; everything follows.
Think of it like → Scale Awareness is like setting the speed limit for your whole session — every driver (every device) knows the rules without being individually instructed.
▸ WHY YOU CARE
- • Playing a wrong note is impossible when every tool respects the scale — great for live performance and fast sketching.
- • Chord generators and arpeggiators that use scale steps sound musical automatically rather than generating intervals that clash.

▸ With scale awareness ON, every out-of-scale note snaps to the nearest in-scale degree. Push 3's grid hides the same notes physically.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Forgetting to update the scale setting when you modulate — the devices keep filtering to the old key
- ✗ Setting Scale device to restrict notes before a chord device — the chord device needs chromatic input to function correctly
