Mission 024
Loops and Loop Rolls
Extending moments — buying time and building tension.
A loop turns 4 bars into infinite bars. Use it to buy time, build tension, or rebuild a track live.

// WHAT IT DOES
A loop repeats a section of the track endlessly until you exit.
Set IN (loop start) and OUT (loop end), or use auto-loop (4-beat, 8-beat, 16-beat presets).
Used to extend an intro, hold a breakdown, or skip a weak section of a track.
Think of it like → A pause button that keeps the music playing. You stay on the same page until you turn it.
▸ WHY YOU CARE
- • Lets you wait for the right moment to drop the next track.
- • Creates new arrangements live by re-looping interesting parts.
- • Saves a transition when the next track isn't ready.

▸ HOW IT WORKS
▸ Signal flow — watch the dot
▸ SIGNAL FLOW
Glowing dot = your signal travelling through Live.
▸ LISTEN FOR
- • Vocal repetition = bad loop placement
- • Phase break on exit = exited on the wrong beat
- • Tightening build = halving loop length
▸ WALKTHROUGH (5 steps)
- 1. DO: Load a track with a clear instrumental section, play to that point.▸ LISTEN: Drums + bass, no vocals.
- 2. DO: On the , press auto-loop 4-beat.▸ LISTEN: Track repeats every 4 beats — endless groove.
- 3. DO: Halve the loop to 2-beat, then 1-beat.▸ LISTEN: Loop tightens — feels like a build.
- 4. DO: Use this time to cue Deck B, prep the mix, then exit the loop on a phrase boundary.▸ LISTEN: Track resumes naturally; transition follows.
- 5. DO: Try loop roll: hold the 1/8-beat button briefly, release, and the track resumes where it would have been.▸ LISTEN: Stutter effect with no timeline jump.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Looping over a vocal — words repeat obviously.
- ✗ Exiting mid-phrase — sounds like a mistake.
- ✗ Using long loops as a crutch instead of preparing properly.
