// WHAT IT DOES
An Instrument is a device that takes MIDI notes and outputs audio. Drop it on a MIDI track → play notes → hear sound.
Live's headline instruments: Drum Rack (drums), Wavetable (synth), Operator (FM synth), Simpler/Sampler (samples), Analog/Tension/Electric (modelled), Meld and Drift (newer synths in Live 12).
Think of it like → Like picking a guitar vs a piano vs a violin. Same notes, totally different feeling.
▸ WHY YOU CARE
- • Knowing what each one's good at saves hours of preset hunting.
- • Right tool = right sound = right vibe.
// SEE & HEAR IT
No simulator for this mission — read & quiz only.
▸ HOW IT WORKS
MIDI notes → Instrument engine → audio → track FX → mixer.
▸ Signal flow — watch the dot
▸ SIGNAL FLOW
Glowing dot = your signal travelling through Live.
▸ LISTEN FOR
- • Wavetable: digital, evolving textures.
- • Operator: FM bells, bass, evolving overtones.
- • Drum Rack: percussive hits, one per pad.
▸ WALKTHROUGH (3 steps)
- 1. DO: Drop Wavetable onto a MIDI track and play.▸ LISTEN: Default preset = a clean digital saw.
- 2. DO: Swap to Operator → Bass preset.▸ LISTEN: FM bass — tight, punchy.
- 3. DO: Drop Drum Rack → drag a sample onto a pad.▸ LISTEN: Pad fires that sample.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Using Wavetable for drums (works but inefficient).
- ✗ Loading Sampler when Simpler is enough.
