Audio Effects Overview
EQ, compression, reverb, delay — what they all do.
EQ, compression, reverb, delay, saturation, modulation — six families that cover 95% of mixing.

// WHAT IT DOES
Audio effects fall into six families: EQ (frequency balance), dynamics (/limiting), time-based (/delay), (//), (harmonic colour), and (panning, gain, stereo).
Each family solves a different mix problem. EQ fixes frequency balance. Compression evens dynamics. Reverb places sound in space. Saturation adds warmth or aggression.
Most pro mixes use the same handful of effect types in every track — what changes is how they're tuned and combined.

▸ WHY YOU CARE
- • Knowing the six families lets you pick the right tool fast.
- • Most mix problems map to one of these families.
- • Plugin paralysis ends when you know the .

WHAT CHANGED
- ▸ Defaults — toggle A/B or load a preset to hear the device.
WHAT TO LISTEN FOR
- ▸ Sweep MID FREQ with +12 dB Q=8 — that screech reveals problem frequencies.
- ▸ A/B with B button: subtractive EQ should make the source clearer, not louder.
- ▸ Boomy lows on chord pad? Cut LOW -8 dB.
HOW TO USE
Press PLAY → tap a PRESET → toggle A/B to compare dry vs processed. Twist knobs to hear how each parameter changes the sound.▸ HOW IT WORKS

▸ LISTEN FOR
- • Each family solving its specific problem.
- • Cumulative effect of the chain.
- • When you add more plugins than necessary.
▸ WALKTHROUGH (5 steps)
- 1. DO: On a vocal, apply EQ → comp → reverb.▸ LISTEN: Three families addressing three issues.
- 2. DO: Add saturation between EQ and comp.▸ LISTEN: Adds harmonic warmth before dynamics.
- 3. DO: Add a subtle stereo widener.▸ LISTEN: Utility family adjusting image.
- 4. DO: a snare to a reverb return at -20 dB.▸ LISTEN: Subtle space added without drowning the snare itself.
- 5. DO: Insert a on a kick.▸ LISTEN: sharpened or softened without touching levels.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Reaching for the wrong family (EQ when compression is needed).
- ✗ Plugin maximalism — fewer is usually better.
- ✗ Skipping the A/B bypass check.
