// WHAT IT DOES
A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is the software where you create, record, edit, and mix music. Every modern producer's central tool.
It has four main jobs: 1) sequence — arrange clips and notes in time, 2) host instruments — run synths and samplers, 3) host effects — chain EQ, , etc., 4) mix — set levels, panning, and routing.
Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase — all do these four things. The differences are in workflow philosophy. Pick one and learn it deeply.
Think of it like → A DAW is the kitchen. The instruments are the ingredients. The plugins are the spice rack. You're the chef.

▸ LISTEN FOR
- • DAW transport behaviour (play, stop, loop).
- • Plugin chain order affecting sound.
- • Routing creating bus structure.
▸ WALKTHROUGH (5 steps)
- 1. DO: Open Live, drop an audio sample, then a MIDI instrument.▸ LISTEN: DAW handles both fluidly.
- 2. DO: Chain an EQ and a on a track.▸ LISTEN: Effects process in series.
- 3. DO: Save a default template with your favourite setup.▸ LISTEN: Future projects start ready to go.
- 4. DO: Group three drum tracks into a bus and add a .▸ LISTEN: Sub-mixing reduces master-bus work and tightens the kit.
- 5. DO: and flatten a CPU-heavy synth track.▸ LISTEN: DAW writes audio to disk; CPU drops dramatically.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Switching DAWs every month instead of learning one deeply.
- ✗ Not saving a template.
- ✗ Ignoring keyboard shortcuts — slow workflow.
