// WHAT IT DOES

Ableton Link syncs tempo and beat between multiple devices over Wi-Fi. Two laptops, a phone, and a hardware Link-compatible drum machine all stay in time.

Enable in Preferences → Link/Tempo/MIDI → Link on. Any other Link-enabled app on the network joins automatically.

Think of it like → Like everyone tuning in to the same radio station for the conductor's tempo.
▸ WHY YOU CARE
  • Jam with another producer or musician's setup without cables.
  • Sync iPad music apps with Live in seconds.

▸ HOW IT WORKS

Local network → Link discovery → shared phase/timeline → each peer aligns its transport.

Glowing dot = your signal travelling through Live.
▸ LISTEN FOR
  • Counter shows number of connected peers.
▸ WALKTHROUGH (3 steps)
  1. 1. DO: Preferences → Link on.
▸ LISTEN: 'Link 0' becomes 'Link 1' as another peer joins.
  2. 2. DO: Hit Start Stop Sync.
▸ LISTEN: Play/stop syncs across peers.
  3. 3. DO: Change tempo on one device.
▸ LISTEN: Others ramp to match.
▸ COMMON MISTAKES
  • Using a guest network that isolates clients — Link can't see peers.
  • Forgetting Start Stop Sync — tempo locks but transport doesn't.
