Frequency Shifter
Linear pitch shift — bell tones & chaos.
WHAT IT DOES
Unlike a pitch shifter (which keeps musical intervals), a frequency shifter slides every frequency by the same amount. Result: inharmonic, metallic, alien.
HOW IT WORKS
Approximated here as ring modulation (multiply by a sine). Real Live 12 uses a Hilbert transform; the audible character is similar at small offsets.

COMMON MISTAKES
- ✗ Confusing with pitch shifter — this destroys harmonic relationships on purpose
